The references are to the numbers of the book-titles in the work proper, and in no case do they refer to the pages of the volumes. Much care has been taken to ensure accuracy, and while the compiler is aware that there are errors in the work, they were not caused by carelessness. Only one who has undertaken such a work can have any conception of the great amount of labor entailed. As it was impossible to compile all the titles with the books themselves, dependence had in same cases to be placed in the words of previous Uibliograpliers, and they also were sometimes incorrect in their titlcs.
