Few people are equipped to understand the arguments regarding old-earth vs. young-earth dating.
The Christian church is faced with a dilemma. Shall it accept both old-earth and young-earth dating for the Genesis account of creation? If the church takes a side, does it risk division? While it is important that the Bible be challenged historically and scientifically so that it does not become mythology, it is also important that science be challenged so that it does not become a charade. The foundations of old-earth arguments are often based upon faulty, slanted or outright fraudulent science. Many Christians may be totally unaware of this. Furthermore, in the spirit of avoiding divisions within the Christian church, and encompassing a range of different opinions regarding the Bible account of creation, is the Christian church permitting false teaching within its ranks?
