The author initially plans to write a memoir about his father but realizes that he really knows nothing about his life. This is, instead, an exploration of a complicated relationship between a father and son. Very well written and engrossing. I definitely plan on reading more of his work.

I read this book because it was recommended by David Sedaris when I saw him give a reading. The writing is well done but the material was pretty dark. I was hoping there'd be more lightness to it. The story of the relationship between Cooper and his father is a sad one and while there is occasional humor, I finished the book still feeling low.
