Excerpt: EECOLLECTIONS OF DISCOURSES DELIVERED IN THE YEARS 1848-49-50. FROM NOTES AT THE TIME. chapter{Section 4 RECOLLECTIONS. 1 Samuel ii. 30. " Them that honour me I will honour, and they that despise me shall be lightly esteemed." You will notice, my friends, that these are in an especial manner the words of God ; not merely the words of a third person conveying the meaning or intention of another, or announcing the general purport of what has been entrusted to him ; but it is expressly " Thus saith the Lord." Now, it is quite clear that this great Jehovah is exalted far beyond all honour and praise. No creatures of his hand are able so fully to apprehend him as to give all honour and glory to him. Even his angels, it is said, he chargeth with folly; by which is to be understood that they, as finite natures, are unable to measure or comprehend the Infinite. We cannot sensibly increase or diminish the glory of his majesty, for in Him we live, and move, and have our being. In His hand our breath is, and he who formed us can at any moment, by ceasing to sustain, annihilate us. But there have been some, in all ages, who have been inclined to take advantage of this, and, since heis so far remote -- so immeasurably exalted above his creatures -- would offer to liim no praise or worship at all.
