I loved this book. I gloried in the ability of my body this time rather than feeling trapped by the pain of childbirth.

This is a very empowering book about pregnancy and birth. If you have given birth and feel "that can't be how it is meant to be" or if you have never given birth and feel that it is a natural event of life, this is an excellent book for you. If you need a book to tell you "YOU CAN DO THIS" and not about scare tactics, THIS is the book for you. If you need a book to help you work through your fears, THIS is the book for you. It is very difficult for me to let go of this book, but I am in hopes that it helps one woman BIRTH instead of DELIVER!

This book is another MUST read for every pregnant woman. Go to the bookstore and browse through it at least twice in your pregnancy! If you are drawn to it, buy it and read bits on a weekly basis. It covers both physiological and psychological factors beautifully and promotes a woman's INNER STRENGTH and self-confidence in the body's ability to birth. Another required reading for birth doulas training with ALACE (Association of Labor Assistants and Childbirth Educators). GREAT read too, interesting and entertaining.

Great book. Very feel good, very earthy-birthy. Really gets you looking at the mental and instinctive nature of birth.

If you are new researching natural childbirth and it's options this is a good book for you. This is also a good book if you have had a less than ideal birth or a tramatic past. This book can help you work through your issues using a lot of artistic stuff. If you are not artsy and are already well read then this might not be the best book for you.

This book made a very positive impact on my labor experience. Would make a thoughtful baby shower gift.

I absolutely loved this book. I credit it with achieving the birth I wanted. Empowered, in control, aware. I agree with another mentioning that this philosophy doesn't sugar-coat anything: there's a chapter entitled "pain"! But the point is to learn to work around and through this and that's the way to control and achieving, well, a perfect birth. You can do it! Let the wisdom contained herein help.

Note that the average # stars seems wrong here because several reviews have no stars mentioned, so the calculations are off. All the rest seem to be "5s" -- I think it's pretty unanimous that this is a fantastic book.

I am a big fan of this book and only wish that 1) We had received or bought a copy earlier in pregnancy. 2) That we had others to do the birth art and working through things with. I appreciate how it focuses very much on the preparing your mind, body AND SPIRIT. The whole self... Learning things about yourself and fears, growing with your husband and preparing mentally.

A very useful guide to natural childbirth, with thought exercises and practice pain-management exercises and suggestions for coping.

I read this Book after preclampsia caused my first child's birth to be a rather harrowing experience. It paved the way for an amazing and peaceful second child birth three years later, at home in our garden tub with my my husband and midwives. It just a very well written, research backed book to make you think and understand what you need and want for your child's entrance into the world.
