This is one of Wentworth's first books and it is amazing just how good her stories were even then. In this book the tension was always there, right up until the end. But her heroine was a determined young lady, who, while often confused, was not about to let herself be used or deviated from her purpose.
What made it even more interesting is there are two men in her life. One is good, while the other is evil. And the evil one is just one member of a group trying control the heroine. The problem is she didn't know which is which, and neither does the reader. So, who do we trust?
Just when you figure out which is which, Wentworth provides a reason to make you doubt your choice, and she does this numerous times in the book.
