Husband read this.. he loves Ralph Compton!
With "Blood and gold" we meet eighteen-year-old Dusty Hannah, a young cowpuncher who's as honest as the day is long. His boss, a prosperous rancher, trusts Dusty to take $30,000 of his gold across the Red River. That, by the way, is through Apache country.
Would that Apaches were Dusty's only problem. When news spreads that Dusty is carrying this amount of gold, every thief in the territory begins gunning for him.
Would that Apaches were Dusty's only problem. When news spreads that Dusty is carrying this amount of gold, every thief in the territory begins gunning for him.
An inexperienced cowboy must take $30,000 in gold across Indian land and face many perils. A really great adventure!
Ralph Compton is one of my favorite Western novelists. Now that he has taken his last ride, the "Ralph Compton" novels are written by various authors. Not all of them are good. This one comes close to what Compton might have written. It's a good authentic Western in which not all the good people end up "happily ever after."
