Let's see, how to sum this up.... I wasn't too impressed with the first chapter, but things improved a lot after that. I liked following Jessamy, Kai, and Ramsey's characters and storylines, and the story kept me interested even when I found the overall picture kind of bleak (this is, after all, a horror novel). The bleak feeling isn't my favorite, and I didn't really care much about Lucas or Asha's storyline (I prefer a more ambiguous demonic presence, apparently! Like Del's, for example...), but I liked the writing and the pace.

This author shows promise. This definitely doesn't read like it's her debut novel! The plot is approached a little differently then the norm for me, but I'd definitely recommend it to fans of the genre.

The prose is lovely, for the most part. The plot however, is rough and familiar. Typical gothic fare.

Not bad for a first book but a little boring in spots. I like a faster pace to my books - but intersting enough tht I will continue the series!
