Anthony Maitland, barrister, was sent to the offices of long established solitors. He had been sent here often - he was much at home there - but he was extremely unprepared to find the senior partner, elderly, respectable James Winter, sitting at his desk over his afternoon tea, dead, with a knife in his back. This is a classical detective story with a fine knowledge of the legal world.
