I read this memoir for a class assignment. It is about the first 18 years or so of Reymundo Sanchez' life, during which he is subjected to a lot of abuse and neglect and ultimately ends up joining a gang, the Latin Kings. The book is mostly about his life as a gangbanger, doing and dealing drugs, sex, and lots of violence. There were a couple of gripes I had with this book. First, the book has a number of grammatically incorrect sentences or missing words, which dragged my attention away from the reading, and secondly, after a while the drugs and violence in the book just seems repetitive. There were so many minor characters in the book that I had to start a list just to keep the characters straight. An interesting read, but somewhat monotonous.
