This is the fourth book in Allie Peliter's Kentucky Corners series. We return to Middleburg, KY this time to hometown show-off & prankster, 'Mac' MacCarthy as his 30th birthday looms. Mac is directed by God as a catalyst for change against Mayor Howard Epson in the never before contested mayoral race. Escaping from Chicago, jingle writer/concert violinist & new believer, Mary Thorpe lands in quiet Middleburg for a fresh start. She settles in the apartment above Mac's engineering office & riles up Mac's cockatoo, Curly, to start. Town folks are prickly over the heat of the campaign trail & division ensues everywhere. Mary has taken on the the daunting job of heading up the Middleburg Community Church Christmas Drama, with Mayor Epson & Mac in leading roles in an attempt by Pastor Dave Anderson to reunite the town. Both Mary & Mac discover they each have secrets that need revealing via 'The Mac-Five' that will challenge everyone to step out of their comfort zones & stretch their faith to offer love, acceptance & forgiveness despite the holiday frenzy.
Allie Pleiter does a great job, especially with Mac's character. All of the Middleburg characters join in on the hilarity: Gil & Emily ('deck the halls' gone wild), Cameron & Dinah (baking up a gingerbread zoo), Drew & Janet (hardware diva now snake-roper-to-the-rescue), Sandy Burnside (as always, a force of nature), Pastor Dave Anderson (a quick draw with his comfort 'muggings')& Gina @ Deacon's Grill (all things solved with pies). I laughed on nearly every page, as usual.
Very enjoyable story!
