The survey was the result of an innovative six-year collaboration by three major organisations: the Cornwall Committee for Rescue Archaeology (now Cornwall County Council Historic Environment Service), the Royal Commission on the Historical Monuments of England, and the Directorate of Ancient Monuments and Historic Buildings (both of which are now English Heritage). The survey is remarkable not only for the extent of the area examined, but also for the number of monuments newly identified in the course of the work. Its success is due to the wide range of technical expertise involved, both in ground and aerial survey and interpretation, which in turn developed, in response to the demands of the task, major innovations in method. Supplementing the survey text are detailed line drawings (some using colour) of individual structures and plans of settlements, with aerial photographs and large-scale coloured maps of prehistoric, medieval, and later landscape of Bodmin Moor.« less
