First, is it permissible to post a book club edition. And secondly, since there is no isbn on these copies, are they to be posted as books with no isbn or should one look up the isbn number for this book and post it using the number. Thanks, Wendy

It is permissible to post book club books here. You CANNOT look up an ISBN for a book without one, you MUST post it as a book with no ISBN. If it is a heavily Wishlisted book you may want to go into the Book Bazaar, find the thread regarding wishlist books with different ISBNs and post it there. That way people will see you have it and can order it from you. |

Thank you, Melanie. That clears it up for me. I have been posting them manually, but it occurred to me that it would be much easier if I just used the isbn because some of these are older, yet popular books. Oh well, guess not. lol. Wendy

Make sure it is a book club edition, not an Advance Reader's Copy (ARC). ARC's are not postable. |

I have never seen a book club edition that did not have an isbn |

Yeah, I agree! Book club editions should have ISBNs. That's why I think this may be an ARC. |

It really depends upon how old it is. All my recent book club books have the same ISBN as the standard books. But my older ones (I'm talking 70's, I think) have no ISBN. But they are clearly marked as "A Harper Book Club Book" or something like that. |

These are older copies, mostly from the 80's. They say right on them, Book Club Edition. So do you think they'll be okay? I looked all through them looking for an ISBN and there was not one. Wendy |

They'll be fine. If they're marked "Book Club Edition" then that's what they are. ARC's are usually marked with a "Do not sell" notice somewhere. At least the three I've seen have been marked that way. |

Did you look on the copywrite page? Most of my book club editions have the ISBN on that page. Since these are 1980's books, they should have something :o) |

Lots of my book club editions from the 90s don't have ISBNs, but most of the more recent ones do. |

Oh I've had MANY book club books without an ISBN. I bought a whole set at a FOL sale with no ISBN. I believe that book clubs just began using those fairly recently. |

I have many book club editions from my late mother's huge library. Most are from the 70's; a few are from the 80's; some from the 60's and even 50's. None of them have an ISBN. |

Books I have received from Book of the Month Club and the Quality Paperback Book Club do not have ISBNs. |

I bought a bundle of Loveswept futuristic romances from the late 80's early 90's a while back on Ebay. They must have been book club books because there isn't an ISBN listed anywhere. A couple of them don't really even have any publishing info. Most of them are in the system already but I guess when I post them I'll have to give them a PBS #. I didn't notice until I went to log them into my TBR pile. None of them are WL though. Thankfully the one book that came in that bundle that was WL had an ISBN#. If any of them are WL when you post them go advertise them in the book bazaar section. Also PBS will send an email to anyone who has a book on WL if one w/a dif ISBN# is posted to the system. |

I have been posting a lot of Book Club Editions (BCE) too, and one of the tricks I use to make it easier to post them, is find an ISBN'd edition already in the system that is similar, then open two browser windows, one with the posted book in, and the other with the 'fill in the blank' non ISBN page. You can then copy/paste the title, author, description, sometimes even the publisher. Generally you will need to measure your book, as BCE's are often different size, and the # of pgs is usually different, but it sure saves typing the rest! |

Coz is right......only in the last few years have they started putting real ISBNs on book club edition books. Before that, they either had no ISBN or a 5 digit one. If a book doesn't say on it that it's an ARC, then more than likely it isn't. Every ARC I ever recieved when I reviewed books said so, very plainly, on the front and usually on the back and inside cover as well. |

I have belonged to a LOT of book clubs and they have only very very recently started putting in ISBNs. I think QPB still isn't using them. So, yeah, BCE with ISBNs are the exception-not the rule :)
