UGh-I picked this up at the library just because it was large print.I'm about 38 pages in and when flipping through the back I noticed it's the last book in a series.Should I bother reading it?Will it make sense as a stand alone book? I'm not really interested in reading the other books right now(althouhg by some bizzarre twist I found both relic and reliquiry(sp) on my bookshelf here at home-must have stuffef them in a bag on library sale day) Thanks for any help:) Stacy

I bought this book also, not knowing it was a series book!! I haven't even opened it yet so I didn't know. I have Relic but I don't know about the other one. I'll check back later to see the answers.

I loved this series and while it would be OK to read book of the dead, it would be a lot better if you were to read them in the series. Great set of books though- very hard to put down. |

One of my favorite series of all! I read them in order, but I suppose it would read okay as a stand alone book. However I do think Relic and Reliquary were the best in the series. I wish I could find a new horror series as good as this one. Last Edited on: 9/1/07 2:31 AM ET - Total times edited: 1 |

You also might want to get Thunderhead. One of the characters from Cabinet of Curiosities, Nora Kelly, is the main character in this book. (I don't remember which one is set first, though, you'd have to check on that). |

*Book of the Dead* is sort of the end of a trilogy. The first two are *Brimstone* (loved it!) and *Dance of Death* (liked it). I think its a great series, though. Enjoy :D |

i don't think it really matters if you read them in order. they do fine if you start in the end or the middle. the authors are excellent at getting the reader up to speed. i have them all, except "superstition", but i started with "the cabinet of curiosities". they are on my keeper list. |

LIncoln Child and Douglas Preston comprise the most successful writing team ever. Their books are highly worth reading, and though you can certainly read each book alone, you will find it enhances your read to go on and read them all. They admit that their books aren't written to be typical serials, but each stands alone. I recommend that you read the Book of the Dead, and then don't stop there; go on to read every one of their creations, including my favorite, Cabinet of Curiosities. RLeTendre |
