The following is the PM that I sent to all members that had submitted pictures that appeared to be affected by the servers problems. It now appears that even those that I could see and approve may have been affected. Please DO NOT SUBMIT IMAGES at this time. Please save them until we can sort this out or you may be entering them over and over. I will add to this post as i am updated on the issue! XXXXXXXXX Thank you for submitting Book Cover Image(s). Due the overwhelming response we received when we were spotlighted on Yahoo this week, we have run into some problems with the servers, and this has caused an issue with the uploading of images and at least one of your was involved. Please do not resubmit images until we are able to correct the problem. We will post in the forums when the system is ready for new images to be submitted. Thanks, Betsy & The Book Image team |

I'm hoping Robert will post here when the problem is fixed. Betsy, have you tried again yet today? |

I uploaded a few images quite a few days ago and they never showed up. Shall I upload them again when the problem is fixed or wait? And, is the problem fixed yet? |

We've heard nothing yet on this, Anne. We have no idea if your images are actually there that were approved or not. At this point we are still approving images and they are not showing. I just tested it to see if it was fixed and it is still not working. Please hold your image uploads until we or Robert post here that this issue is fixed. |

I did an upload of 12 files and so far nothing is showing up. I will check them in the morning and post again.
Please continue to wait to add images to the upload.
Thanks, Betsy |

As far as I can tell it is still not working. I tried to approve a page of images about five minutes ago, and they did not show up in the database. So please continue to hold onto your images and we'll let you know when the problem is sorted.

I did a test of 12 images last night and they still have not shown up. I have submitted a feedback and waiting to hear something.
Please continue to wait to add images to the upload.

What does *bump* mean? |

Threads with the most recent posts appear closer to the top of the thread listing. Folks who want to keep a thread near the top of the listing, or on the first page of listings, will make a post to "bump" the thread up the line; and often just put the word "bump" in the post to let others know why they posted.

While we're waiting ... I have wondered why members cannot add the images directly themselves (as at other book sites)? |

Linda R: How funny, I just asked this question on another forum discussion. If a reply of any sort is posted to a topic, that topic gets "bumped" to the top of the list, so it is easier to find that topic again since it is an active topic. As a topic ages, people stop replying to it and it finds its way to the bottom of the list, eventually to be removed. If someone wants to keep the topic near the top, but doesn't really have any meaningful or new info to add to the thread yet, they can post a nonsense reply "bump" just to bump the topic back to the top of the forum lists. Now I use it when I am earnestly following a topic and can't wait for the email notification I get when I mark the "Watch Topic" button and the topic is in danger of getting lost down the bottom of the list. |

R&R required all images to be approved for correct cropping, positioning, and clarity and cannot contain any identifying marks from other sites. |

John, no one says you can't upload your own images. Everyone is welcome to. I'm not sure where you were told you couldn't. They just have to then be approved after you upload them. You upload them and then a select team that have been working as official image collectors and been watched for a while, are then promoted to approvers, and they approve your image. We look for all the things Betsy just said, and then we approve or deny it. But, we are more than happy to have you upload them either as a regular member or an official volunteer. You can have a striking blue icon if you volunteer, or just be anonymous and only the approvers will know that you are uploading images. And, you know, I would dare to bet you that on the other sites, the images have to be approved too before they show. Just what some site needs, is a joker sticking a nudie up for a book image, you know? That's why they have to be approved, because there are jokers (and worse) out there :) |

I understood I can upload images - just find the censorship aspect kind of depressing. |

Because the refreshing and such is a paid feature, we use their free (or very cheapest) database that doesn't get the attention the paid version does. Btw, that would also then explain why I constantly find incorrect images & titles for books on Amazon, and I find that extremely distressing when they get PAID for the use of their database! (LibraryThing & Bookmooch, both pay a higher fee than the norm for their use of it) Oh, and John, I on the other hand, find it quite impressive that the owners of this site care enough about what I see to make sure I don't have to look at any jokers smut, AND that the cover I'm looking at is visable. No offense meant, just my opinion :) In addition, I don't think of it as censurship, I find it to be quality control :) Last Edited on: 10/9/07 8:10 PM ET - Total times edited: 1 |

approving every image takes 1,000 times the manhours it takes to take down one problem image now and then!
I would say about 1 out of every 10 has to be redone because it does not meet the requirements that R&R have set for the site.
and as long as we have volunteers willing to do the manhours...whats the issue? Last Edited on: 10/9/07 9:21 PM ET - Total times edited: 1 |
