I am going to start a unit on food. The food pyramid, where food comes from, etc.

Any good books on where food comes from, why you need certain foods, etc?

That is the one they have for primary students, they also make a middle school unit.  We used this and really liked it.

I am needing reccomendations for cookbooks for my son, who is interested in cooking.  He is 11.

Check with your local extension office.  They should have a lot of great information.  You can purchase 4H curricula even if you're not a member.

There's a great site called "Pyramid Tracker", where your kids can track their caloric intake and see how it stacks up:

Also, you can get a bunch of free stuff from the FDA, USDA, American Dietetic Association, etc.
