“Lush, dark and unsettling, No Book but the World haunted me for days. With great skill, Leah Hager Cohen takes us through a twisty and resonant tale about the price of secrets, the burden of family, the remnants of childhood we never leave behind.? —Megan Abbott, author of The End of Everything and Dare Me — At the edge of a woods, on the ground...  more »

Ava and Fred are siblings who grew up in a commune-like setting with a father who believed in allowing children to grow up unfettered by restrictions or rules. Fred, as Freddy the child and Fred the adult, has many challenges that are undiagnosed but seem to fall somewhere on the autism spectrum. When their parents die, Fred and Ava go their separate ways into the adult world. When Fred is arrested for a heinous crime involving a child, Ava is forced to face her feelings about her responsibility for her brother. There are alternating chapters told from different perspectives about their unusual childhood memories. The ending seemed rushed and without an adequate resolution.

Given its interesting premise, I expected to find this book riveing, but that didn't happen due to its slow pace and its hasty ending.
