Looking for some recommendations for my 8, almost 9 year old son. He recently finished The Sign of the Beaver and loved it. He is now reading The Other Side of the Mountain by Jean Craighead George. He likes it but it has been slow going for him - I think the reading level may be too high for him. Can anyone recommend any more books, that he may enjoy? I recently purchased Call It Courage by Sperry and Shiloh by Naylor for him. |

Good choices with Call it Courage and Shiloh! If he likes Shiloh, there are 2 other books after it: Shiloh Season and Saving Shiloh. You may also try The Door in the Wall, by Marguerite deAngeli, Henry Huggins by Beverly Cleary (and all the other Henry books, too!), The Bronze Bow by Elizabeth George Speare (same author as The Sign of the Beaver), Old Yeller by Fred Gipson, and From the Mixed-up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler by E. L. Konigsburg. All of these books have been read by either my son (8, almost 9) or my daughter (recently turned 11), or by both. They thoroughly enjoyed each and every one of them! ~Jori |

Thanks for the ideas - I have The Bronze Bow on my wishlist and we have a copy of the Konigsburg book on one of our bookcases. I hadn't thought of Old Yeller but I bet he would really like that one.
