This is an awesome book. I have read many books on Elvis, and this one is written from a TOTALLY different perspective. Written by his 2nd cousin, Earl Greenwood, who was raised with Elvis more as a brother than a cousin, Earl tells the Elvis most of us don't know.

From Elvis birth, as a dirt poor son of a share cropper in Tupelo Mississippi,Elvis was a skinny, VERY shy, unpopular kid, who was often picked on and made fun of, by some his classmates. The book tells of Elvis's first love, How he came to meet Col. Tom Parker (who was neither a Col. nor even a US citizen), to the bond he had with his mother Gladys, whom he clung to when he thought he had nobody else, until her death, which shattered Elvis for the rest of his life. The book focuses , like I said earlier, on Elvis' early years much more than his latter years and his death. I delves into his movie making a little and his drug use a little bit, but not like all the other books I had read on Elvis. Overall, a great read, and the co-author, Kathleen Tracy is one heck of a writer as she held my interest from page one till the final page. I wanted the book to be longer, and was sad when it ended it was such a great read. Five star book in my mind for sure, Charles Alexander
