Bread Bakery - Field Trip! Author:Catherine Anderson These books, presented as virtual field trips, will help to answer basic questions about how bread, fire trucks, and newspapers are produced and how they make their way into our daily lives. Chapter titles are in the form of queries, such as "What Shapes Can Bread Have?" "What Is an Aerial Device?" and "Where Is the Newspaper Printed?" Each ques... more »tion is answered in four simple sentences; sometimes the word choices are peculiar. The answer to "Where Does Bread Come From?" would seem to be a location rather than "flour," the food's key ingredient. The format and numerous access points-a contents page, unfamiliar terms presented in bold print and linked to a picture glossary, and an index-make the books especially suitable for beginning research projects. The photographs are clear and the font is suitably sized for beginning readers, and each book ends with a labeled diagram. While it's unlikely that children will pick these books up on their own, they will serve curriculum units. Collections that need titles similar to the "Field Trips" series (The Child's World & Picture Window) will want to consider them.-Gloria Koster, West School, New Canaan, CT Copyright 2005 Reed Business Information.« less
