Carmen's Bugan writes a captivating memoir of living in communist Romania during her childhood, beginning in the 1970's. Her father was driven to try to escape the life the family lived in Romania under communist rule by writing anti-socialist pamphlets against Ceausescu, the Romanian leader. He was caught & incarcerated. The family was ostracized, kept from living a normal life in the Romanian culture, followed & watched under surveillance by the Securitate. Bugan writes with deep thought of the hurt, trials & overcoming all the family has endured and to have survived during the ordeal. An excellent read!
