This book walks one quickly through the development of the cultured pearl beginning with Japan and Nishikawa, Misa and (probably more recognizable) Mikimoto but none of the juicy details to the background story of these men and the development of the cultured pearl. The book moves quickly to the technology and the economics around cultured pearls to the globalization of cultured pearl production.

Guidance is offered for the distinction between South Sea, Akoya, freshwater, Mabe and Keshi pearls and if you wish to purchase any one of these types, what to look for in the various types of these pearls.

The brevity of the discussions give it a coffee table book feel suitable for basic knowledge.
