Wow, this man is a bully. Really. I spent half this book shaking my head at the rants, freak outs and downright tantrums he described. At first I felt bad for his girlfriend, who seems like a very strong woman and could easily have kicked his butt. But she put up with it, why I don't know. I stopped feeling sorry for her. I do admire her for hiking even half the distance she did with her physical problems that eventually forced her off the trail. I'm surprised Mr. White wants to reveal to the world what piece of work he is.

Early in the book, the author realizes that he needs to tackle the PCT for himself, not as inspiration to others. This was disappointing since I was actually expecting a bit of inspiration, but I plowed through the first 100 pages of whining anyway, repeatedly shocked that anyone would attempt this adventure so unprepared! (Truthfully, I kept reading just to see how long it would take for his girlfriend to kick his butt.) After a while, I was amazed to find him bucking up a bit, growing up, noticing the good stuff. I'm glad stuck with the entire book and enjoyed much of it, but probably wouldn't want to hike with him. :-) Be sure to check out the interesting P.S. interviews at the back.

I really enjoyed this book a lot. It is the story of a man and his girlfriend who set out to hike the Pacific Crest Trail and all that goes along with their journey. It is humorously written and an easy read. If you enjoy the outdoors you would probably enjoy this book.

It makes you want to give up on the daily routine of life and hit the trail. I enjoyed this book.

Seems more about love than the trail, since I know the trail better than love, the trail was the more interesting. He seemed to suffer the most in the areas I have hiked (south of the Sierra), and I'm glad he found the Laguna Mountains one of the most beautiful parts of the hike, it's my favorite. He did it before the 2005 Cedar fire, though.
