Lots of baseball info, interesting without being dry or pedantic. It covers a lot of ground about spring training in AZ as well, lots of local color. But mainly it's about the characters in the book, how they think and interact. Told in multiple POVs, and you don't get much of a story from any one of them. I felt the women in particular were all cut from the same cloth. I have to say it mostly left me cold, not because of any lack in quality, but because I like a story to have some satisfying conclusion and there isn't one here. Normally I prefer mysteries or SF, both of which tend to have an arc where there is a problem to be solved. I'm sure that's why I wasn't happier with this book. There is a small redemptive moment at the end, but it just seemed pretty sad to me.
