"Call After Midnight" -- Newlywed Sarah Fontaine has just received the news that every wife fears: her husband of two months has died abroad in a hotel fire. Yet convinced he's still alive, Sarah forges an alliance with Nick O'Hara from the U.S. State Department that has the two of them crisscrossing Europe on a desperate search for signs of life.
"Under The Knife" -- For attorney David ransom, it begins as an open-and-shut case: malpractice. Then Dr. Kate Chesne storms into his office daring him to seek out the truth - that she's being framed. When another patient turns up dead, David starts to believe her.

I enjoy reading Tess Gerritsen. Her books are hard to put down.

Two books, Call After Midnight, 273 pages (copywrite 1987) and Under the Knife, 277 pages (1990), bound as one. Both well writen, one international espionage, and the other, a medical mystery.

I was a little disappointed at goofy romance angle. I have read other books by Gerritsen that were just good mysteries. Guess I should have paid attention to the "Harlequin" tag.

Call After Midnight:
This was a good story overall. A lot of times, I was amazed at how well the author can blend her thrillers in with a romance and stitch it all together for a great read. The espionage story-line was done really well.

Under the Knife:
Couldn't put it down. This author does an amazing job with her medical thrillers due to her background in knowing what's she talking about. A great read!
