This is the BEST historical romance I've read in quite awhile. Most of the ones I've recently read started off great...only to fall flat in the middle and conclude with a disappointing end. "The Captain of All Pleasures" was GREAT! I loved Nicole and Derrek! Every scene scene between them either left me laughing aloud, sighing in pleasure, or blinking back tears.
I truly enjoyed this story and look forward to reading Grant's story in "The Price of Pleasure".

OK. As an avid reader of historical romance, as well as a huge fan of Kresley Cole, this book left me a bit cold. As a first effort, this was a darned good book. If it had been my first Kresley Cole book, I may not have read others. She is a MUCH better writer now, and I think she's much better in her paranormal books than historicals. The language used in dialogue as well as situations in general seem too modern for the times. I guess it can be overlooked in favor of good story, but for me part of what I enjoy about historical romance is how burdened people were by social rules and constraints. How nobody could do or say what they felt. Cole writes as if those rules don't really exist, so it kind of diminishes the point of reading a historical romance. It's more like contemporary romance without electricity.
I can agree with other readers, however, that Cole makes me want to read the next book in the series. She gives a good introduction to Grant and you look forward to reading his story.

A great romance & intrigue for the first of Sutherland Brothers. Strong heroine, sneaky hero who redeems himself. Can't wait to read about second brother Grant.

Once again love thrives and wins, even against all odds. It helps that the couple comes from a priveleged group, albeit seemingly tragic circumstances. I enjoyed this love story so much, through its ever-increasing challenges, burgeoning passion and entertaining subplots with endearing sub-characters. There could be no doubt in the end that the hero and heroine were meant to be together always.

This is my first book by this author and I look forward to reading her others. Typical strong heroine and strong-yet-vulnerable hero with charming supporting cast. This isn't your typical love-at-first-sight story but the story of two people who dislike each other before even meeting and the barriers they must break down in order to tolerate each other.

London 1856 - Nicole Lassiter, was indeed something of an original - more at home on the deck of a ship in the attire of sailor, than in a dress at the finishing schools her grandmother sent her to in an attempt to turn her into a proper lady. But a deal was a deal and she had, after all, mastered seven out of the nine subjects at the school before she and the school mutually parted company! Now she was searching for her father, Captain Lassiter along the dockside. She just had to convince him to let her take part in the Great Circle race from London to Sydney. This search led to the Mermaid - a place that sailors came to find `company'. Well she found him and soon she caught her first glimpse of her father's biggest competitor and enemy - Derek Sutherland - rake, drunk - and gloriously handsome and virile. As preparations for the race progressed so did the sabotaging of certain ships. Stumbling upon just such an event - Nicole ended up running for her life right into the arms of Sutherland - or from the frying pan into the fire. For both it would be the beginning of a passionate encounter that would change the course of both their lives. Good story, but it kinda went in circles at times. I do like how she set the scene for her next book with the characters in this one.

Raised as a free spirit aboard her American sea captain father's majestic clipper ship, willful Nicole has never encountered an obstacle she couldn't overcome until she meets Captain Derek. His sizzling kisses leave her longing, but after they share a night of passion, his subsequent disdain makes her blood boil. Great read!
This book was so good, I loved it from start to finish.

The story of Nicole raised at sea trying to find her place in her father's cargo company and Derek Sutherland, the man who will stop at nothing to have her. I loved that Nicole was her own person, strong willed, not just a stunning woman, but a character who actually had purpose and value. Fun romance, highly worth reading.
