When Jennet is forced to return to her step-brother Rafe's house to prevent her half-sister Melly marrying Jennet's ex-husband she gets into strife. Rafe, who has a lot of baggage to do with Jennet's mum, doesn't trust Jennet and this isn't helped by the fact that she looks like her mum; beautiful, sexy as hell, with a reputation for behaving like the amoral soap-opera characters she has been playing on television. Here, I should get in quick and point out that Rafe and Jennet, although step-brother and -sister, aren't blood relations because they generate enough sensual fumes to be damned for all eternity if they were.
The plot is enlivened by Derek, Jennet's rather ghastly ex-husband; Trent, Derek's cousin who rescued Jennet from Derek's evil clutches originally, and Melly, Rafe and Jennet's half-sister who has a will of her own. (Indeed, Robyn Donald produces Trent and Melly in their own story, a few years down the track from this one - but make sure you read this one first.) The story has a goodly element of suspense as Jennet gets only one real chance to force Derek to reveal his true nature and Donald winds the tension up as the story escalates, laying it on with delicate artistry. In fact this bit of the story is so good that you can forgive the fact that Rafe's projection onto Jennet of his psychological hang-ups over Jennet's mother are a tad unbelievable. Read it and enjoy a romance with some substance to it.
