In Case Of Emergency
Author: Georges Simenon
In this novel of obsession, Lucien Gobellot, a respected criminal lawyer, takes as his mistress a prostitute who celebrates infidelity like a virtue. Driven by forces he cannot control, Gobellot plumbs the depths of degradation. It is logical he should find murder waiting there.

I find Simenon's non-Maigret novels a little tough, because I can't tell where they are going or what the point is, exactly. This one was written in 1958, this copy is from 1970. The blurb on the cover is from The New York Times, "... lit up by sexual gymnastics the like of which are not encountered outside of plain wrappers." (times have changed!)
