Could not get into this book. As much as I enjoy watching the birds in my backyard, this book tells me far more than I want to know about birds! Sarah Deane takes a break from graduate shcool and heads for sunny Southern Texas to join her boyfriend, Philip, on a birdwatching expedition. Philip's rare sighting of a pair of hook-billed kites gets things off to a great start until he ends up strangled by his binocular straps and the rest of the birders are both suspects and sitting ducks.

Book 1 of the Sarah Deane & Alex McKenzie series

This book appealed to me being set in wildlife refuges and national parks and centered around bird lovers.

I thought having so many characters in the first book of series bogged it down, although it was helpful having a page at the front that listed the characters.

I found it a bit more graphic than the cozies I usually prefer.

I will probably try Book 2 to see how it reads. This one was a mixed bag with me, holding my interest at times, but at others dragging to where I didn't know if I would get through it.
