I had never heard of this WW II hero before. It is a fascinating story of what one man with determination can accomplish. Some reviewers on Amazon found the first 100 pages boring, but I thought they added depth to the story.

I checked this man's Wikipedia page and was surprised to read he received numerous medals. However, since the sinking of the ship he was on was his first major action, and he never saw combat in his naval career after he was rescued, I suspect the Wikipedia page is incorrect. Especially, since there is no citation for the other medals.

It would make a good movie. The Wikipedia page states as late as 2016 a movie was still being considered.
