A thoroughly enjoyable read where most of the action takes place at a house party and the gentlemen participate in a secret wager involving the female guests and marriage, with unexpected results. Romantic and a bit funny, the entire group of guests and their hosts make this tale a worthwhile read. The Celebrated Pedestrian was a real person who achieved fame setting records for walking fast and far. He may have been one of the reasons for the house party, but he's too busy walking to have a major role in the story. This is the second amusing novel I've read by Allain. She's one I'll continue to watch. 3.5 stars
