I recently was diagnosed with Celiacs after a horrible eight months of drastic weight loss, abdominal pain, hair loss, bone pain, inability to eat, weakness, tremors, elevated blood work - you name it! This is one of the first books I purchased. Dr. Green is one of the top Drs./researchers in the US for Celiac Disease. You would be surprised how many Drs. know so little about this disease. My own GI did not know the name of a nutritionist to send me to and only handed me a printout from the internet with information. Obviously, he is no longer my Dr. There are only a handful of research/medical centers in the US specifically dedicated to Celiac research and Dr. Green is the Director of the Celiac Disease Center at Columbia University Medical Center. The book addresses many of the misconceptions and confusing information that is floating around the web or even through many Drs. about the disease. It was great to have a definitive answer - especially if you are asymptomatic. I read this in a day and it helped me feel so much more confident and less scared in my diagnosis. I highly recommend.

I feel very lucky that this book has just come out right as I was diagnosed with Celiac Disease. This book is incredibly informative about the disease, the functions of the digestive track and what happens when you have Celiac, medical research, symptoms and associated disorders, advice, and where the medical community stands. I especially appreciated the section on myths vs. facts. I must read for anyone with Celiac or who has someone with Celiac in their lives and wants a greater understanding of the disease.

This book is a must have for anyone that has been diagnosed with Celiac Disease. The authors make sure to stress the importance of getting fully diagnosed, while giving information that might be overlooked by someone doing research on their own.

I highly recommend it (and will in fact be buying copies for fellow Celiacs).
