Definitely had mixed feelings on this one. The book started off with a bang. A girl is kidnapped and "the Chain" is responsible. Going against the Chain breaks the link which will get you and your daughter killed. Craziness! Couldn't wait to see where it would go. Unfortunately, the book could've been much shorter and would've ended up being better. There were places that I ended up just skimming because it really seemed to be a bunch of gibberish that really wasn't needed. Then it would get crazy again and so on and so on. It did have a good ending and loved the fact that it ended with chapter 77 (read the book and you'll know why).

As she is driving to work, Rachel Klein's cellphone rings. A woman on the phone tells Rachel that she has kidnapped her daughter, Kylie. If Rachel ever wants to see Kylie again, she must follow her instructions...Do not involve law enforcement...pay a ransom...and find another child to abduct. The caller tells Rachel that someone has her son, and she can only get him back alive if Rachel follows those instructions.
Rachel is now part of the chain, and she cannot break it without serious consequences.

How far will a parent go to protect their child? That is what we find out in this exceptionally plotted story. I enjoyed the premise, but I thought the pacing was uneven. We would just get into the story when it would flash back a couple of decades to tell us about the people behind the chain. I would have rather kept with Rachel's plan to save her daughter, or Kylie's ordeal while being held hostage. Even so, it was an entertaining story.

I listened to the audiobook. January LaVoy does the narration. She did a fantastic job with the many characters. My rating: 4 Stars.

This was a unique storyline with a sense of dread throughout the book. It kept me reading because I couldn't imagine how anyone would ever be free of "the chain". It's multi layered with some flawed characters (both good and evil). I was quite satisfied with the ending. Good reading!
