Changing Faces Changing the World A Dialectic and Autobiographiction Author:James Sullivan Changing Faces & Change The World is a philosophic dialectic fiction; a short story that begs the question whether it's better to be yourself, or better to be a good person, then answers it. — Guy grew up learning how people think, act, dress, and behave. In order to make friends, he practiced how certain people acted and created a ... more »"face" to identify himself with them. In their presence, Guy would appear as though he were "one of them."
He noticed quickly that some of the people his "faces" pertained to wore faces of their own. So what was anybody really like?
Eventually Guy suffers an identity crisis when the Faces he's created have all become blurred and Guy is no longer sure what his true Self is. His internal struggle is to discover his true Self and, moreover, answer the question as to whether is better to be yourself, or better to be a good person.
Guy's most popular face, NiceGuy, is adopted over an internet community. To them, NiceGuy is an intelligent, helpful, kind, caring individual who can solve most any problem. Guy is very well received through this community. He finds that the strongest confliction with his true Self and NiceGuy is which is worth being.
Through this community, Guy finds a prodigous teenager, Russell Storms; Russell is a mind with potential as high as Guy's, yet trapped inside a cage. Guy motivates himself to inspire Russell, in the process inspiring himself to Change The World.
Changing Faces & Change The World is about making people realize that the other people around them might not necessarily be who you think they are. It's about teaching people the benefits of being yourself and -- moreover -- benefits of making yourself into a better person so that the world can be a better place.« less
