Cherry Chocolate Cake

Dish Type: Chocolate
Cooking Method: Baked
Difficulty: 2 / 10

Cook Time:

Ingredients
  • 1 Box - Devil's Food Cake Mix (or your own recipe from scratch)
  • 1 Can - Cherry Pie Filling
  • Oil - As called for in the recipe
  • Eggs - As called for in the recipe
  • 1 Box - Instant Chocolate Pudding
  • 1 Container - Cool Whip or other whipped topping
Directions

Preheat oven as called for in your recipe or on the cake box. Flour and grease or use a baking spray on a 13x9x2 inch pan. Either make your own Devil's food recipe as I do, or pick up one from your local supermarket. Make cake according to directions, but DO NOT add the water it calls for, substitute the cherry pie filling for the water. Mix with a spoon carefully (so you don't break up the cherries) until the mix is well blended. Spread into the prepared cake pan and bake according to your recipe. When cake is done cool for about 15 minutes then refrigerate until cold (do not remove it from the cake pan!). In the meantime, prepare pudding mix as directed, refrigerate and allow it to fully set. When cake is cool, spread the chocolate pudding on top of the cake. To serve add a dollop of Cool Whip!

Notes

My family loves me to make this, they demand it at all holiday gatherings! I hope you enjoy it!

My family all came to dinner this weekend and i made this cake for dessert and they all really liked it. The only thing that i changed was to put the ccol whip over the whole cake all at once. It will become a regular for us. thanks for a good dessert sally

Hey Diane, I got you in a PM, but I thought I would leave a comment here for anyone else who had a problem understanding the recipe! The instant pudding is the "frosting" for the cake. You can serve it with or without the cool whip on top. I just happen to love the way it tastes when you plop a spoonful on top of the cake once it is "frosted" with the pudding, my family loves it this way as well!

I'm sorry I do not understand the receipe. What do you do with the container of cool whip, add it the the pudding? Or is the instant pudding the frosting? Sounds good I just don't understand the receipe!:(
