Just wondering, when browsing the book store are you drawn to books with the fun covers or do you just go by the title or the author? (I love the way the chic lit books usually look. In my experiences, the cute covers usually end up being fun chic lit to read.) |

I buy from covers or at least the covers get me to pick up the book. I wish the covers would reflect the books though..I've gotten some that had a 'serious' cover but were hilarious reads and some with c utesy covers that were downright depressing. |

I wonder how one gets the job of designing the covers? I would love to do that! I like to draw and design. :) |

I'm drawn to the covers, and read the back based on what the cover looks like. I think control over the cover art can be a pretty big bone of contention for certain authors. I can see how it would make or break your sales figures. Although it's paranormal and not chick lit, check out this one by Dara Joy, who appears to have gone totally off the rails: http://www.officialdarajoy.com/ |

I'm always drawn to the covers too! Some books I just have to have because of trendy looking covers. Then again, I am usually sure to read the back cover... just to be sure that its got a decent plot behind it! I recently bought a neat looking book, only to discover that it was about art, museums, collages... I'm not into that stuff! So yeah, who said you can't judge a book by its cover?? Seems like we do it all the time! |

I'm definitely drawn to the covers, which in turn causes me to the back cover blurb. What I can't stand is all the pink. Would much prefer colorful covers over pink. |

I like looking at the covers too. Here's a site I go to and look and at all the pretty covers. ( of course also to find new books to add to my wishlist) :D Chris

I' admit, a really cute cover will catch my eye but I've NEVER bought a book based soley on the cover. However, if a pretty book also looks interesting, I'll get me going to the counter quicker :) You shouldn't judge a book on its cover, but I think every book deserves a nice one. |

Great question. Yes, I am totally drawn to the book covers, the cuture the better. Although I have read some awesome books that do not have a great cover and have not read some despite having a good cover. So I guess the cover (or title) draws me in but the description is what causes me to actually want to read the book. |

I love book covers too. I have found that if a cover has a lot of pink and green on it, I generally like the book. Sort of a silly way to pick a book, but so far it has worked pretty well! |

Probably a little bit of both - the title and the book cover. My fiance jokes that he could probably pick out a book for me if it's 1) pink 2) has "some girl on it" and 3) has a "weird title" - he still teases me about "Miss Bubbles Steals the Show" LOL |

I got into Chick Lit because of a book cover!!!! It was Emily Giffin's "Something Borrowed" pink cover that made me pick it up off the shelf. I read "Something Blue" then Baby Proof" all in a month and was sad when I was finished... :-( I then started searching for more Chick Lit books... So, I'd say, Yes, a nice eye-catching book cover helps! :) |

I wish I knew how to get in business of designing the covers. That would be a fun job! |

I stumbled on my first Sophie Kinsella book (I think it was Can You Keep a Secret) because the cover was such a lurid pink, I knew I'd love it. Found the Soccer-Mom/Demon-Hunter books because of the exact shade of pink on the cover, and I was in the Science Fiction section of the library at the time. California Demon has a *fabulous* cover. |

I'm SUCH a nerd because I like arranging all the pastel colored chick lit books together, and the darker books separately. It bugs me if they're mixed... LOL |

Jennifer L -- I have to confess, I arrange my books by color and size too. It just looks so tidy that way... Don't worry, other than little quirks like that, I'm really a slob. :-D |
