Wow! This book was amazing. A page-turner for sure! I don't know how I've managed to have this in my TBR (10+ years!) and not know what I was missing. The journaling format used in it gives it a very "Bram Stoker" feel to the story so that it's easy to consider this a prequel. Any fans of the original will not be disappointed with this series.

It is Amsterdam, 1871, 25 years before the start of Stoker's novel, and 25 years following Arkady Tsepesh's flight from his family's ancestral castle with his wife and young son, Stefan, after learning that he and his family are bound by an ancient covenant to serve their ancestor, Prince Vlad Tsepesh, who is also known as Dracula.
