This book is over 30 years old. Virginia Lee Burton was a famous artist in her era. Taking inspiration from her boys she also wrote and illustrated children's books, some of which (like Mary Ann the Steam Shovel) are still very popular. This is one of her lesser known books but is everybit as good as her better known ones. Her black and white illustrations capably illuminate the story and delight the reader. Naughty little Choo Choo, who is a well cared for and loved train, decides to go off by herself. Adventures and danger ensue. After Choo Choo is rescued she decides staying with her engineer and conductor is much better than going it alone.
