With Christmas in His Heart is by one of my favorite authors - Gail Gaymer Martin. This story is set on Michigan's Mackinac (some call it Mackinaw) Island.. in the winter. It centers on a young ad executive, Christine, who has come to Mackinac to care for her ailing grandmother. While there she meets Will, her grandmother's boarder and self-appointed grandson. Over time, Will and Island life melts Christine's cold self-protected heart. Christine comes face to face with many crossroads in her life... the most important one deals with her wavering faith. I truly enjoyed this book. I love the setting. I have never been to Mackinac... I haven't been to any part of Michigan in fact... but I fell in love with the idea of living in a small town atmosphere full of artisans. I also loved seeing the internal struggle in Christine as she looked at what the world expected of her and what the Lord requires. It is a struggle I have dealt with many times in my life... one I think we all deal with.
