**spoiler alert** Well, Darren Shan has done it again, this book was fantastic! Things were pretty bleak for Darren at the end of the last book, he was set to be executed and he had just seen Gavner Purl killed by the traitorous Kurda. To top it all off, he had jumped into the freezing mountain river.
This book was probably the most sad/intense of all of the Cirque du Freak books I have read so far. There is some intense fighting with the vampaneze, quite a few deaths of beloved characters and some ethical and legal dilemmas. One of the hardest parts of the book is when Darren realizes that the fighting with the vampaneze is not black and white. I nearly cried when Kurda was executed. I really always liked him and could totally understand that he did what he did to save the vampires.
I am really eager to read more about this "Vampaneze Lord" (maybe it is Steve, Darren's friend from the first book - that might be why his blood was "bad")
I was SO happy when the Princes made their final ruling in the end. I kept thinking that there was absolutely NO way out for Darren, but making him a Prince was very creating thinking, albeit not totally unexpected.
As always, I'm SUPER excited to read the rest of the series!
