Heavily technical. Was required reading for the Cisco Certified Network Associate class at my high school. Is a little outdated by now, but helps one get a basic grasp on how a network functions.
Discusses:
All 7 layers of a computer (application down to physical)
How routers work (the middle section of the book)
Network security, management, and troubleshooting
991pp. The edition I am listing is missing the trial CD ROM.
