Ah, this is more like it. The last two novels seemed to drag on as Hervey plays military politics and looks around for a suitable wife while dallying with a married woman.

While he misses his chance for one goal in life, he does stumble into an engagement with a lady. Then it is off to The Cape to encounter prejudice (what again?) and the fearsome Zulus.
