What an absolutely horrible week it has been for the Red Sox. Houston Astros, too. You may have heard that MLB has been investigating sign stealing by the Houston Astros in the 2017 season, in which they won the World Series. They have found it to be true and suspended AJ Hinch (manager) and the General Manager (can't remember his name right now.) They will also miss draft picks for a couple of years and they will be fined $5 million. The Astros owner then promptly fired both men. They named the coach (several times) who had been the ringleader of the whole thing, Alex Cora, who was the bench coach for the Astros that year. In 2018 the Red Sox hired ~ guess who? ~ Alex Cora to be the manager of the Red Sox. The Red Sox also won the World Series in 2018. Three players, who are no longer with the Red Sox, contacted MLB and told them that Cora was doing the same thing in 2018. MLB is now investigating the Sox 2018 season. (I don't know if they were still doing this last year, but if so, they failed miserably.) This all took place on Monday. Tuesday evening the Red Sox announced that Alex Cora was "not returning". * read, fired.* As a Red Sox fan for nearly 54 years, I cannot tell you how awful I feel, how angry that Cora was cheating on the game, how embarrassed. Thankfully I did not have to speak at a press conference this afternoon. I'm sure the owners, et.al, really wanted to pound their heads on the table, but they answered the questions. It was your typical press conference ~ the owners said right up front they would not be answering questions about the investigation which is still ongoing. Then the journalists in the room did their very best trying to get them to talk about the investigation. Pretty much a waste of time.
It is now only 4 weeks to Spring Training and we have no manager. I guess it's better than the manager we had. :(
