Summary:
Hailey, a nerd, decides to reinvent herself for the beginning of a new school year at a brand new school. She follows instructions from her big sister's diary to become popular. Through trial and error, Hailey realizes that happiness does not necessarily come with popularity and she finds her true self with her true style.

My thoughts:
Crane has a style all of her own. She is spunky with sharp wit. While there are quite a few drama queen type scenes, Hailey's character is one that is easy to relate to. She also shows the true meaning of self-esteem and self-worth. I appreciated these aspects of defining oneself instead of letting others define who you are. I think that is an important message, especially with high schoolers in mind. Crane also has a way with dialogue. She slips it in without any types of leads that make it feel out of place. Overall, the character development continues through dialogue and allows the reader to feel a part of the conversation. As a truly talent author, Crane is someone to keep on the radar. I'll be waiting for her next YA read to add to my high school library.
