Confessions of a Teen Sleuth A Parody
Author: Chelsea Cain
America’s favorite girl detective is back to set the record straight. According to our titian-haired heroine, she was not in fact a fictional character, but an intrepid real-life sleuth who investigated some of the twentieth century’s biggest mysteries. And the famous series she starred in was not cooked up by a team of writers, but ...  more »

Chelsea Cain has done a wonderful job of taking my favorite characters from my youth--Nancy Drew, Ned Nickerson, the Hardy Boys (Joe & Frank), the Bobbsey Twins, and several more--and turning them into a 21st-century novel that had me laughing out loud throughout the entire story.

Granted, THIS story is probably not for the teen-set, unless your son or daughter is more mature. The Nancy and friends of THIS book drink and smoke, make out, have sex and even an affair, and in general aren't as perfect as their former counterparts. That said, however, CONFESSIONS OF A TEEN SLEUTH is a thoroughly enjoyable book that reads as a series of mysteries solved, of course, by the aging Nancy Drew. She starts out as the teen sleuth of the 1920's, and ends up an octogenarian in her 80's in the 1990's.

Very funny and amusing, I'm glad I picked up a copy of this book!

I absolutely loved this witty, satirical and fun book! If you grew up loving Nancy Drew novels and have a sense of humor, I bet you'll get a kick out of this book. I guess it's not important that I point out you'll only "get" this book if you've read the old Nancy Drew novels, as I doubt someone who hasn't wouldn't be interested in this book. It also helps if you have at least cursory knowledge of The Hardy Boys and Cherry Ames. This follows the "true" adventures of Nancy Drew, from her golden teen sleuth years to the twilight of her life. Here, Carolyn Keene isn't a small army of writers but Nancy's annoying college roommate :) A quick, fun read that includes pictures exactly like those in the original series.

This is the real Nancy Drew, writing her own story. She confesses her true love (not Ned Nickerson!) and implies the actions taken. Other sleuths show up from time to time, including Cherry Ames, the Bobsey Twins, and the Hardy Boys. Campy from time to time, the main character still takes herself, and her sleuthing, seriously. Each chapter is presented as a mystery to be solved. Fun reading!

I loved Nancy Drew and the Hardy Boys and had a desperate wish that Frank and Nancy would get together. This book, while completely nostalgic and totally brought me back to my childhood, kind of made me not like Nancy. I waited on the wishlist forever for this book and was sort of disappointed by it.
