Excerpt: Mr. Smith of Maryland, from the commitee last mentioned, reported the bill without amendment The motion made yesterday, by Mr. Smith of Maryland, on the mode of electing the President pro tempore of the Senate, was resumed; and On motion, by Mr. Taylor, Ordered, That the further consideration thereof be postponed to the first Monday in November next Mr. Taylor, from the committee to whom was referred the bill, entitled "An act authorising a subscription for the old six per cent, and deferred stocks, and providing for an exchange for the same, reported it without amendment Mr. Taylor, from the committee to whom was referred the bill, entitled " An act to prohibit American vessels from proceeding to or trading with the enemies of the United States, and for other purposes," reported it with amendments, which were considered as in committee of the whole, and Mr. Anderson was requested to take the chair; and the amendments were in part agreed to; and The President having resumed the chair; On motion, The Senate adjourned to 10 o'clock to-morrow morning; (the executive business having been considered,) to which time the several orders of the day were postponed.
