Story of a gypsy's daughter with an incredible voice and her life with a stern voice teacher and various boyfriends. Set in the 1700's and written in the 1800's, it is sometimes slow. Overall a good tale, but takes a while to get into it. Not sure if I'd recommend it; too many good books out there that aren't as long/take so long to get thru.
