I'm not sure what the convent of little flowers had to do with anything except the first story, but these were good stories all the same. They were stories of Indian life and how modern ideas and old world tradition can find ways to blend or destroy lives.

This was a quick read. With a few of the stories I was sad for their length. The first story especially I would love to see in a full novel some day. It makes you wonder "what happened next?"

The only other short stories I've read are by Jack London. I read his "To Build a Fire" in school. My father gave me the gift of a collection of his stories on CD when I drove across country. Jack London had a mix of happy and sad short stories, much like Indu Sundaresan has. I don't know if it's because they're the only short story authors I've read or if there's more to it, but reading Sundaresan's work reminded me of London's.
