This is a well-regarded journalism book. I remember that the branch library where I worked fifty years ago had a copy and it saw some circulation. The pace is slow moving as was Martha's Vineyard in the 1930s.
The author and his wife bought the Gazette in 1920 (circulation 600) and built the circulation to 2,700 by 1940. They originally set the type by hand and the press was hand-cranked but returns were such that they bought a linotype and Mr. Hough foresaw computerized production in the future.
A pleasant read. No index.
