Set in the Texas Panhandle in 1900
Sam Legend, Jr is living in a rustic wikiup as he has left his position as a Texas Ranger and is hiding from the world. He feels responsible for the murder of his wife by an outlaw gang he was chasing. Sam has taken up a new occupation - blademaking. He makes and sells beautiful knives.
One night during a storm he awakens to a weight on his body and a knife at his throat. He soon realizes that the intruder is a woman and he wonders why she wants to slit his throat.
Cheyenne Ronan is the daughter of the man who sold some land to Sam. Sam goes to talk to her dad the next day and so finds that she thinks he killed or someway harmed her friend who use to own the wickiup.
Sam's former Captain comes to find Sam for assistance. A counterfeit gang is passing money in the little town and they need to round them all up. Sam is hesitant to help until he finds out the gang is the crew that murdered his wife.
There is lots of suspense as Sam and other Texas Rangers determine how to find and take down the gang. While all this is happening Cheyenne rescues a very sick pregnant womand and her 2 children and then nurses her back to health. Where is this woman's husband?
And of course there is romance happening between Sam and Cheyenne.
